ABNORMALITY - The Collective Calm in Mortal Oblivion
GENRE: Brutal death metal COUNTRY: USA FORMAT: CD LABEL: Self financed YEAR: October 15th, 2010 RATING: 9/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Abnormality Abnormality is a five-piece from Massachusetts, USA. The music is brutal US style death metal. There are lots of things going on in the songs and I like that a lot. It's not just the usual straight forward kind of thing. The band is good at making the music consistent and exciting. The songs are mostly fast, but there are also plenty of slower and almost groovy parts to mix it up. In addition to the aforementioned the band also throws in a solo or two. These fit the music nicely and add greatly to the feeling of the songs. Find "Hatred Relentless" on YouTube and you'll know what I'm talking about. Another thing I like is that the bass is mostly audible. It does add to the breadth of the music. Vocalist Mallika does a super job. For the most part her vocal is a low end type of growl, but she does mix it with a harsher, almost shouting kind of singing. It goes well with the music. I find it a bit difficult to pinpoint some exact bands that Abnormality is inspired by, but Suffocation and possibly Abysmal Torment wouldn't be too far off. The three songs on The Collective Calm in Mortal Oblivion are all of a high standard. It's obvious that Abnormality is a band who knows their terrain. The five Americans have talent and I hope a label will notice that as the music is just too good to ignore. |
