As of late I've become more and more aware of Russian death metal. The latest band to find its way to my mailbox is Abortarium. I really don't know much about the band other than the four-piece come from Tomsk, Russia.

The Russians seem to like Cannibal Corpse a lot, but do also integrate other things, like bits and pieces of modern metal and more noisy types of music. This is obvious on "R. Devolution Instincts", but also to a degree on the other songs.

Abortarium doesn't do much that hasn't already been done before, but there's no doubt that the band has some interesting ideas. But a thing I miss is a little more variation. All the songs get somewhat boring after a while. It's like the riffs tends to be played over and over. And with no solos things do get uninteresting in the long run.

There's definitely more work to be done if the four-piece wants to take this longer than the demo stage.
