A thing that has bugged me for a while is how Osmose Productions is able to find all the middling bands. With the exception of a handful of bands the majority of the Osmose fold is boring which too often end in standard or sub-standard releases. And to be honest French death metal band Act of Gods does absolutely nothing to change that impression.

The music is standard death metal and usually I have no problem with this. Most of the riffs sound like they could have been leftovers from a Cannibal Corpse record. Many of the songs tend to be too much alike add. That doesn't add anything whatsoever to the soundscape.

However the band does try to add some personality to the music by integrating elements of black and thrash metal, but it mostly feels like a half-hearted attempt. The result isn't very convincing and here's nothing that change the fact the Frenchmen is just another pale copy of Cannibal Corpse.

No matter how many listens I gave Stench of Centuries it didn't get any better. It just stayed as boring as it did on the first listen. I hope that Act of Gods is able to add a little more personality to the music on the next effort as Stench of Centuries is anything but convincing.
