Amok was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 2001. The band has put out a few demos and MCD's prior to Lullabies of Silence. Musically Amok appear influenced by the more modern extreme metal bands like Cephalic Carnage and those similar. I do also spot a bit of later day Immolation once in a while.

The music is manic and chaotic death metal blended with a fair share of grindcore and extreme metal. The songs are immensely varied and Amok regularly switches back and forth between eerie harmonies and the full-scale brutality. Lullabies of Silence is stuffed with breaks, hooks and shifts in the tempo. This all help make the music even richer sounding. There may not be a whole lot of new-thinking on Lullabies of Silence, but it still feels fairly fresh and clearly the band have lots of ideas. There's no doubt that these guys know what they are doing. The music never gets out of control and nothing seem left to circumstances. Lullabies of Silence is a very balanced, but intense effort.

The production is powerful and clear. It allows the listener to explore all the little things that is scattered all over the album. The bass is kept upfront which give the music a chunky feel. Lullabies of Silence is a strong effort that almost certainly will please fans of Cephalic Carnage, Crowpath and most bands on the Relapse rooster.
