ANTIGAMA - Resonance

GENRE: Grindcore
COUNTRY: Poland
FORMAT: CD
LABEL: Relapse Records
YEAR: May 21st, 2007

RATING: 6/10
REVIEWED BY: PSL
PROVIDED BY: Relapse Records

Poland's Antigama is by far strange to me. The band has evolved a lot since I first heard them on Discomfort. The style nowadays is not quite as noisy and uncompromising as it was then, but the many of the characteristics are intact.

The music is grindcore combined with the spastics found in modern metal. It works well and gives the music a different expression. It doesn't hurt either that the Poles mix in a bit of industrial now and then. Another thing that needs to be mentioned is that the band doesn't just blast blindly ahead. Antigama is able to constantly vary the pace and add new things as well.

Resonance is in not a predictable CD, but it has a tendency to become somewhat tiring when constantly heard. However in smaller doses there are many interesting things to explore.

In many ways Antigama isn't different from anything else on Relapse Records, but nevertheless the band is able to make their music somewhat unique, and Antigama prove once again that they aren't afraid to evolve and try something new. Resonance is recommendable if you like grindcore with an industrial touch.
