Munching the Rotten is the debut from Dutch brutal death metallers Arsebreed whose line-up include members from such other renowned Dutch death metal bands as Pyaemia, Disavowed and Mangled. The music is US styled death metal in the vein of Deeds Of Flesh with a tad of groove. The songs are skilfully put together leaving little to want. All the songs are relatively short without any filler to pull down. I like this as it goes directly for the throat without compromising the technicality and groove in the songs.
Sure Munching the Rotten doesn't differ much, if anything from other US styled death metal releases, but it doesn't matter as it's a well done effort. The weakest spot on the album is the production which I find a little too dry. It lacks the juice which would have given it a little more bite. On the other hand it's quite clear so none of the details seem to disappear in the soundscape.
Despite of sounding like a million other bands Arsebreed have done a good album that easily can stand lots of listens without losing its durability. Fans of bands like Deeds Of Flesh, Severed Savoir or any other Unique Leader bands shouldn't pass on Munching the Rotten as it's up to par with what these bands have done.
