This is quite an unusual effort. It's not really an EP because it has more than an hour worth of music. It's not really a compilation because it has three new Avulsed songs on it as well as three cover tracks. It's not really a tribute album either because Avulsed themselves play on it too. It's actually a pretty weird and original blend.
Reanimations is a very mixed bag of goodies. Here's two new tracks which both promise well for the next album. Moreover there's a reworked version of "Unconscious Pleasure" as well as three Avulsed renditions of tracks by Exodus, WASP and Gorefest. All three are done well, but nothing that beat the originals. Last but not least the Spaniards has picked nine Avulsed renditions done by other Spanish bands.
I like the whole idea and concept. It's nice to hear that most of the bands which have contributed with their interpretations of the Avulsed songs haven't just made an exact copy of the original, but tried to set their own fingerprints on the songs too. Still most of them aren't very interesting, because wouldn't you always want to hear the original instead? I know I would. Actually the Zardonic techno remix of "Stabwound Orgasm" is the best track because it's totally different from what you would expect on a death metal album. Reanimations is mandatory if you're already a fan of the Spaniards otherwise there's not too much to find here.
