I'm actually not familiar with any Birdflesh studio material so that does make me a bit unqualified to proper judge the live album from the Swedes, but I'll give it a shot anyway. Usually I'm not very fond of live releases but I must admit that Live @ Giants of Grind is quite funny and actually also in the better end of the scale. The sound is pretty good and despite a lot fuck ups from the band's side [which actually adds significantly to the entertainment value of the album] I found it to be pretty good. Both the cover artwork and the song titles witness of a band that is both goofy and totally unserious [just look at the band pictures on the cover] and that's why the many mistakes doesn't really affect the overall impression in a negative way.
It's obvious the way the Birdflesh clown around that they enjoy what they doing and it wears of. Most of the songs are pretty good and the set is varied. As I wrote before the sound is pretty good. It's clear and yet fairly brutal, so it's easy to hear what's going on. It also sound very honest and by that I mean it doesn't sound like there's been tampered with anything after it was recorded. Live @ Giants of Grind may not appeal to a lot of people, but it is a must for fans of the band. It made me curious about checking out some of the band's studio material at some point.
