I didn't know what to expect when I saw the pinkish artwork and it also quickly became clear that Brainchoke's music is anything but typical. The music is a peculiar mix of grindcore, black metal and a bit of banjo is thrown in as well. I'm not very fond of black metal so there's already a huge turn-off there. The main riff on "Spiritual Medication" sounds very much like the riff on The Kovenant song "Chariots of Thunder".

The music actually also work the best when the Brits go for a more traditional Napalm Death versus Nasum kind of approach. Unfortunately Brainchoke rarely do this and thus Introspective becomes a boring effort for my concern. I admit that the songs are fairly varied and a few places it almost gets interesting, but I quickly loss interest again due to the obvious black metal inspiration that shows in almost every song. No matter how I twist and turn it I totally fail to hear the interesting in what Brainchoke is doing on Introspective.
