BUCKSHOT FACELIFT - Universal Goat Tilt
GENRE: Grindcore COUNTRY: USA FORMAT: CD LABEL: Burn It Down / Rebuild YEAR: 2009 RATING: 4/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Buckshot Facelift New York's Buckshot Facelift plays noisy grindcore blended with lots of punk and hardcore inputs. The songs are short and most have a devil-may-care kind of feel to them, but I have difficulties digesting it. It doesn't matter much that the songs are diverse and that the four-piece often change between fast and slow parts. The problem is that there aren't many of the songs that stand out among each other. A big part of the problem is the vocals. These are not very diverse and it does affect the music in a bad way. Will mostly sings in a shouting and almost panic-stricken way. I like antagonistic and in-you-face type of vocals, but here it become a bit too much in the long run. The production is dry and dirty. It doesn't exactly provide the music with a tight sound, but it fits okay with the punk vibe that the songs often have. Universal Goat Tilt is an odd effort. It does have some interesting parts, but also many downsides that affect the music in a negative way. On the whole it's just another standard effort that doesn't really have what it takes to stay interesting in the long run. |
