Swiss death metal band Carnal Decay has some of the worst lyrics and titles I've seen in 2008 and the same goes for the artwork - it's all comical in a bad way, but apart from that there's not much to laugh about. The trio plays Americanized brutal death metal. Of course there's nothing different in this, but Carnal Decay do a convincing job. The band plays tight, brutal and straight forward. Comparing the music to that of bands like Deeds Of Flesh and Gorgasm wouldn't be too far off, but a returning problem is the irritating use of movie samples - they do nothing but annoy. The reason why that is, is that there's no red line in them and that destroy the overall continuity in the music.
It's clear that the trio is not out to invent brutal death metal all over again and that's not a problem. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the music or the vocals, but almost everything else pulls down. A Jon Zig or Mike Hrubovcak artwork, better samples and less childlike titles and lyrics would have made this effort complete and far more enjoyable than it is now. It's a riddle to me why the band hasn't put more effort in things like the aforementioned. If you can abstract or don't care much about the issues I've mentioned then there's some okay death metal here.
