CATARSIS INCARNE - Katharma
GENRE: Death metal COUNTRY: Costa Rica FORMAT: CD LABEL: Self financed YEAR: August, 2011 RATING: 5/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Catarsis Incarne Catarsis Incarne is a Costa Rica located four-piece. The music is death metal with a modern twist. It's obvious that the band find inspiration in a variety of genres. The music is somewhat atypical. It's not the common run-of-the-mill kind of death metal, but it's not the really spacey type either. It's apparent that the band likes to experiment. The result is a bit confusing now and then. There are quite a few good riffs and parts, as well as solos. That does boost the music, but a lot of it tends to disappear among the more standard and tiring parts. It's evident on songs like "Yo Me Creé" and "Condena". A song like "Subconciente 1010011010" has a strong thrash metal vibe to it. It does work okay, but it's nothing that makes the music very interesting. And that is a common problem on Katharma. No doubt that the band has many good ideas and sure the four-piece are able to give the music personality, but overall the songs aren't all that exciting. Maybe it's just me, but I miss a little more intensity and nerve in the music. I think it's great that the band experiment and doesn't try to limit itself, but the result is mediocre. There are lots of good ideas on Katharma, but many of these are watered out by the less interesting elements. If you like your death metal mixed with a bit of rock, thrash and a modern twist then you'll Katharma more than I did. |
