REVIEW
CEREBRAL FALLOUT - #12
Released: 2009 | Label: N/A | Rating: N/A | Reviewer: PSL | Provided by: Cerebral Fallout

It's not that often I get to read a printed zine nowadays and definitely not something as underground as Cerebral Fallout. The editor Mark K. sent me a copy of the latest issue. At first I found the layout overwhelming and somewhat messy with all the drawings and graphics, but it turned out to be a minor detail. After all it's the content that is most important and here we're talking underground music of the kind I like.

There's interviews with Blood Freak, Gravehill, Blue Holocaust and Birdflesh among others. With only 28 pages there are not a lot of interviews in this issue, but most of them are long and quite interesting. The interviews and reviews are laid back. Actually the whole zine is and it's all done with a sense of irony and humour. It's different from how I and most other writers do things nowadays, but the writing style reminds me of how some of the smaller underground fanzines did it in the early 90's.

Everything is underground and there's nothing from the bigger labels featured here. That is also something I appreciate as the smaller bands and labels usually are more interesting to explore than what comes out on some of the larger labels. The layout is like a collage and as I wrote earlier it's a bit overwhelming at first, but the more I like look at it the more I like it. Everything is in black and white, but it's not some primitive photocopy. It's pro-printed and the format is A4.

#12 of Cerebral Fallout is very good. It's reminds me of how things were prior to the internet. I remember how I was browsing every page in zines like Trechoma and Thrash Magazine back in the day looking for new bands to check out and I kind of felt the same way while reading Cerebral Fallout.
