Dr. Doom practice some honest grindcore that draws on inspiration from bands like Nasum, Gadget, Converge and Rotten Sound among others. The band mix in bits of noise as well and it provide the songs with a degree of distinctiveness, but overall the Dutchmen don't sound very different from what you'll hear put out on Relapse Records. That however is not a bad thing and the band shows on this split CD that they know how to create music that rocks. The song-writing is very good and Dr. Doom don't just blast away the entire time instead the band try to vary things and they succeed.
It's been awhile since the Roadkiller CD and now Collision return with more straight-in-your-face grindcore, but it's like the band have cleaned up their style a bit. The music appears more focused and have an outspoken sort of hardcore meets punk vibe to it now. It works well and only strengthens the identity of the music. It's clear that the Dutchmen know how to convey the music both intense and energetic. The song-writing is good with many catchy elements in between all the grinding. Like on Roadkiller the dual vocals are a huge asset. The two vocalists complement each other perfect.
The Dr. Doom / Collision split CD is not exactly bursting of surprises, but both bands play some convincing music. If you're not too demanding then I suggest giving this split CD a chance as both bands do a great job.
