I find it odd that Coram Lethe state that they get inspiration from more extreme death metal bands like Cannibal Corpse and Deicide as it doesn't show in the music at all. The Italians play technical death metal with a bit of black metal and doom now and then. In general the band gets away with this mix fairly well, but there are two problems that tend to spoil the overall experience of the music and those are the vocals and the pace. Erica Puddu's Angela Gossow-like type of vocal is far too unvaried. Her harsh vocals tend to sound mostly the same on every song. There's not much variation in what she does, plus the way she sings gets annoying after a few songs.

The next problem is that Coram Lethe don't vary the pace a whole lot. A lot happens in the music, but the pace doesn't change much and that does get trivial in the long run. It's like the band deliberately hold the pace down. The Italians do show a glimpse of something faster on "The Gift of Providence", but it doesn't change anything on the whole. There's no doubt that Coram Lethe do have some good ideas, but a lot of these doesn't show because of the aforementioned issues. Another thing that's shame is that there are no real solos - these could have contributed to create a little more versatility than there is. …A Splendid Chaos is not a bad effort, but it's not a CD you remember after a month or two.
