01. Legions of Death
02. Signs From the Abyss
03. Exhale Into Darkness

The Danish death metal band Crucifix are currently looking for a label to issue the follow-up to 2008's Threnody of the Crucifix. As a taster the Danes have recently put out a three song promo. The style on Legion of Death is not all that different from what Crucifix did on Threnody of the Crucifix.

The music is hateful and anti-religious death metal with some hints of black metal now and then. The songs are mostly very fast, but the band doesn't overdo it. The Danes do slow down and vary things enough so it doesn't become repetitive and boring. The bits of black metal that occur here and there are most obvious on "Exhale Into Darkness". It does create extra diversity.

Something I miss now and then is a solo to boost things additionally. It's not like things doesn't work the way they are now, but it would add a little extra to the songs.

The sound is dirty, but not all that meaty and crisp. It makes the music raw, but I miss a fatter guitar tone to make things more compact. I don't think it's too far off to compare Crucifix's music with that of early Krisiun, Rebaelliun or Nephasth although it's not quite as fast.

Legions of Death is a demo that promise well and I wouldn't be astounded if the band gain some interest from labels thanks to this three song demo.
