DEFEATED SANITY - Psalms of the Moribund
GENRE: Brutal death metal COUNTRY: Germany FORMAT: CD LABEL: Grindethic Records YEAR: March 20th, 2007 RATING: 7/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Grindethic Records Defeated Sanity plays the brutal American style of death metal. There's not exactly anything different in what the Germans are doing. The music is tight and brutal and that is what matters the most. Contrary to some of the other bands in the genre Defeated Sanity likes to take it slow here and there, and be heavy as fuck instead of just trying to play fast. In many ways the music makes me think of Cannibal Corpse around Butchered at Birth and Tomb of the Mutilated. But also many of the features that Suffocation use seem to have inspired the five-piece. That being said Defeated Sanity isn't just a poor copy of the aforementioned. There's much more to the music than that. Just like Cannibal Corpse the bass is thick and chunky. I like this as it profits the music. The vocals are low end growls. They can get a bit same-sounding after a while, but do on the whole fit the music. The production is thick and has a lot of volume, but it's easy to hear what is going on. Psalms of the Moribund isn't different from much else in the genre, but it's a fine CD if you're looking for brutal, but diverse death metal. |
