East European bands are not the most common thing around and certainly not from Slovakia but none the less this is where brutal death metallers Dementor originate from. My knowledge about this band is pretty limited and to tell the truth the band doesn't really impress me that much either. But none the less they are definitely among the better ones in the Osmose fold.
Despite the fact that Dementor have been around for several years they seem a little too fond of the Brazilian death metal combo Krisiun and US death metallers superiors Morbid Angel which unfortunately result in a more or less faceless effort. Sure God Defamer has its moments and the music is utterly brutal and super fast but none the less most of the songs remain anonymous. Often the songs on God Defamer tend to sound somewhat alike which obviously is a downside. Sure I can distinguish them but somehow they often become a blurry mass. The only thing that really helps to set the songs apart is the somewhat chaotic Morbid Angel-like leads that are scattered all over the album and they add little but much needed variation.
However not everything is negative here and music really grew on me after I had given God Defamer countless rotations in the CD-player and it made me come to the final conclusion that the album lies a little above the mediocre. So despite my slightly mixed feelings towards this album I feel that I must add here near the end of this review that God Defamer is far better than a lot of the other albums that are being released these days even though it's far from being a revelation.
