DEUS OTIOSUS - Murderer
GENRE: Death metal COUNTRY: Denmark FORMAT: CD LABEL: F.D.A. Rekotz YEAR: March 13th, 2011 RATING: 6/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: F.D.A. Rekotz If you like obscure music then you may be familiar with Danish bands like Church Bizarre, Victimizer and Cerekloth. Deus Otiosus is just as dark as the aforementioned three. And that is actually not that odd as Deus Otiosus feature people from all three bands. The music is death metal, but with lots of hints to thrash and black metal. In particular the references to thrash metal are obvious. The songs are well-written and overall there's good variation in what the band is doing. Mostly the music isn't that fast, but it help stress the gloomy in the songs. I like this as it adds a disturbing feel and makes it all somewhat bleak. The songs have enough good riffs and parts not to bore. That being said Deus Otiosus doesn't do anything to be different. The five-piece stick to all the clichés. It's obvious that the band has been inspired by Altars of Madness era Morbid Angel on "No Life". That of course doesn't need to be a bad thing and it isn't here. The artwork and pictures are all in black and white. It does add to the murk image of the music and I like this. Murderer is no work of art, but if you like death metal with a thrashy ring to it, then you could do a lot worse than Deus Otiosus. |
