According to the info sheet that followed this release Divine Rapture has 'caused quite a stir on the underground scene both in the U.S. as well as aboard. Why is beyond me 'cause the band offer nothing unheard or the slightest innovative. Sure their sound may be a little different but it's far from being anything out of the ordinary. The similarities with death metal meisters Morbid Angel are many and impossible to ignore. Also the vocals do at times bring to mind a band like Nile especially in a song like "Affliction of Faith". However not all material on The Burning Passion seem "borrowed" and the band does have some ideas of their own but they don't really shine through until the last half of the album.
The Burning Passion is an album that despite keen attempts throughout the album never
really get past the mediocre and the boring instrumental keyboard based tracks "The Deifying, The Sorrow, The Awakening" and "The Smothering" does little or nothing to help change that. Despite multiply rotations the album never really grew on me and with the exception of a few details like for instance the guitar lead in "Your Time Will Come" and the opening riffs in "Affliction of Faith" the was really nothing the caught the ear.
