Ethelyn is a Polish five-piece. Prior to Devilicious the band has put out Traces Into Eternity 2008. The music is a mixture of black and death metal with bits and pieces of melody. It's obvious that the band has routine.

The song-writing is diverse. There are lots of things going on in the songs, but somehow it never becomes really exciting. Sure there are catchy riffs, sure there are fast and slow parts, and sure there's a solo or two when needed, but still it feels a little too banal. I guess the problem is not so much that the music is standard, but more that it lacks energy and intensity. It's gets a little boring after a while. It all starts out well with the opener "New Aeon Utopia", but from there on it's more or less downhill until the boring closer "A Pocket Full of Satan".

The vocals makes me think a bit of Cradle Of Filth now and then, but on the whole the vocals has more of a death metal type of feel to them. The vocals go well with the music. The production is thick and juicy. It definitely profits the music.

Devilicious is nothing special. It does have its moments, but there's too little going on to make a positive difference. If you like the blend of Cradle Of Filth induced black metal versus melodic death metal then you probably like Devilicious a lot more than I.
