I liked Eyeconoclast's 2005 demo Clustered Dead Ending Corridors a lot, but in some way I missed out on the bands 2008 debut CD. Here in 2011 the five-piece has put out the three song EP Sharpening Our Blades on the Mainstream.

The music is a mixture of death and thrash metal. There's nothing untried about that blend, but the music do differ a bit anyway as its catchy and far more interesting than most put out in the genre. Of course it's difficult to make a valid opinion on three songs alone, but what I find common about the three songs are song-writing.

The music is well put together and there's no unnecessarily filler or boring parts. The band mostly play fast and that profits the music a lot as it's a big part of what makes Sharpening Our Blades on the Mainstream such an intense effort.

Another thing is the riffs. Sure some of the riffs may be a bit standard, but the riffs are above all catchy and that is what matters. Sharpening Our Blades on the Mainstream is a well-rounded effort. I hope it won't be another six years before I hear more of Eyeconoclast.
