FAKE IDYLL - The Rapist
GENRE: Grindcore COUNTRY: Germany / USA FORMAT: CD LABEL: Unundeux YEAR: September 2nd, 2011 RATING: 6/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Blacklist Promotion Fake Idyll features people from Japanische Kampfhörspiele, Jack Slater and Cephalic Carnage. As well as lots of guest vocals including Nick Schendzielos of Cephalic Carnage, Kevin McCaughey from Ion Dissonance and Psycroptic's Jason Peppiatt. The music is difficult to describe precisely. It's a blend of death, grind, porngrind and electronic music. It's an odd mixture, but it works very well. Some of it makes me think a bit of The Project Hate MCMXCIX, but overall the two bands doesn't have much in common. The songs are catchy and it's obvious that the band likes to experiment a lot. It does get a bit too much on the electronic / sampled songs "Bekiff in Deutchland" and "Moho". But apart from the two aforementioned songs the music is heavy and brutal. The last four songs on the EP are karaoke versions of the first four tracks on the CD. It most of all feels like filler, but in a way it's not so bad to be able to hear the songs without vocals. The Rapist is not the typical thing and I think the band has something interesting going on. With some fine-tuning here and there it will be exciting to hear what the band can do next. |
