FETAL DECAY - You Have No Choice
GENRE: Death metal COUNTRY: Russia FORMAT: CD LABEL: SFC Records YEAR: February 3rd, 2011 RATING: 7/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: SFC Records Fetal Decay is a Russian three-piece. The music is brutal death metal. The trio is deeply inspired by Dying Fetus. And it can definitely be heard in the vocals, but also in the music now and then. However the band doesn't groove as much as the Americans. It's obvious that the band has own ideas and inputs. The guitar-work is overall forceful. There are many good riffs and parts, and above all the music is quite technical. I like that there often is a short solo or two. It does help provide the songs with identity, as well as taking the music a step up the ladder. I think that is clear on songs like "False Pride" and "Final Out" to name two. The band has no drummer. Instead the trio uses a drum-machine. This may scare some people off, but to be frank you don't notice this much. Guitarist Denis Akulshin has done a good job in programming the drums. The production is clean, but it has the needed bite not to take away the strength of the music. It's nice to be able to hear most of the things going on in the songs. You Have No Choice is a good effort. It's not a CD that is atypical for the genre. However it's an effort that earns a chance if you like death metal with a technical twist mixed with a bit of Dying Fetus. |
