Gorerotted's debut Mutilated in Minutes… Severed in Seconds was chockfull with references to Cannibal Corpse but the songs was spiced up with a fair amount of sick British humour. A humour that I've actually come to like quite a bit. Another funny thing that set Gorerotted somewhat apart from the rest were the lyrics that are basically rimes like "Put Your Bits In A Concrete Mix", and the bizarre humour was actually what made up for the obvious lack of originality.
Now Gorerotted is back with their Metal Blade debut and the new album Only Tools and Corpses still bear the aforementioned Cannibal Corpse references which are very obvious if you've ever heard Cannibal Corpse's classic album Tomb of the Mutilated but none the less Only Tools and Corpses is still a pretty good and interesting release that definitely proves that Gorerotted has something to offer despite their lack of originality. But who cares if the music is original or not as long as it's well-played and entertaining, and it certainly is in Gorerotted's case. Somehow Only Tools and Corpses keep reminding me of a TV-show called "Tales from the Crypt", but I guess this is due to the samples used on the CD. The music seems somewhat more independent this time around compared to Mutilated in Minutes…
Only Tools and Corpses is a good CD that proves that not all death metal should be taken too seriously. So if you're looking for some aggressive fucked up death metal with a great amount of humour, then Only Tools and Corpses is a great purchase.
