02. All Along the Runway
03. Powdering Squeeze

Russian death metal is definitely not something I get to hear each day so it was with a good amount of curiosity that I found the three song promo Try from Grenouer in my mailbox. Unfortunately it wasn't quite as I expected it to be. Grenouer began as a brutal death metal outfit in 1992, but have evolved a lot since so the direction these days is technical death metal, but heavily influenced by a band like Meshuggah.

The songs are fairly diverse, but it tends to become too much with all the sudden stops and shift in direction and the power-groove a la Pantera approach. The band has some good ideas, but unfortunately as a whole they are not that convincing. "Devil's Eyes" appeared the most worthwhile of the three songs, but the others are not bad either, however none of the three appeared particularly memorable. I wouldn't say Try is a bad effort, but somehow it failed to appeal to my taste.
