The music on Gronibard's latest CD We Are French Fukk You is a somewhat atypical experience. Okay it's not that different from so much else goregrind where humour is an important constituent. I'm tempted to say the band is a spoof version of Blood Duster. The Frenchmen start out with some sugar-coated pop music on "Tu Ressembles a L'Amour" and I do mean pop music, but from thereon it's largely goregrind. Opposite to many Gronibard don't blast a lot; actually they almost don't blast at all. The music is mostly played in an almost rock-like way and it can be boring. The band goof around a lot vocally, but the same could be said about the music. Gronibard loan from all kinds of genres, but it don't end up being a mess.
It's quite entertaining and the Frenchmen are to a large degree able to make the music varied. The band sings mostly in French and that work out very well. It adds a little extra and make Gronibard a little different from other bands. On the closer "Hokoutro" the band comes up with some Japanese gibberish - it's funny. The production is beefy and often the bass is allowed room. It suits the music and gives it a little more vitality. I doubt most people will find We Are French Fukk You interesting unless they're already fans, but if you like music with humour and don't ask too much when it comes to ingenuity then Gronibard isn't bad at all. Whether the music lasts in the long run I can't say, but We Are French Fukk You is an effort that shouldn't be taken too seriously.
