HUMILIATION - Dawn of Warfare

GENRE: Death metal
COUNTRY: Malaysia
FORMAT: CD
LABEL: Nebiula Production
YEAR: 2010

RATING: 6/10
REVIEWED BY: PSL
PROVIDED BY: Humiliation

I liked what Humiliation did on the band's EP Face the Disaster. The music was very inspired by Bolt Thrower, Obituary and to a degree also Morgoth. The songs on the bands first full-length Dawn of Warfare is not all that different in from the EP in terms of style, but I hear more of a Dismember'ish kind of inspiration here.

As on the EP the band doesn't' venture into untried territory. However it's noticeable that the five-piece has grown to be more secure and tries to add a bit more personality to the music. But still it doesn't differ much from so much else, but the five-piece is well on its way.

The song-writing is okay. The band obviously has lots of good riffs up their sleeves, but it's a bit of a drawback that the music lacks of drastic changes in the pace. The songs are almost entirely held at a moderate pace and that does bore a little now and then. I like when the band plays a bit faster like on "Capping the T". It makes a big difference. The bass pops up now and then and it adds nicely to the music. But something I miss is a few more solos as there isn't that many.

I also like that Humiliation does little or next to nothing to hide their adoration of Bolt Thrower. I hear hints to the English five-piece in most of the songs.

Dawn of Warfare is an okay effort, but more fast parts would have made it a little more exciting. If you like death metal old school and with lots of Bolt Thrower and Dismember type of riffs and parts then you should give this Malaysian five-piece a chance.
