Immersed is an Ottawa, Ontario located five-piece. The band plays death metal mixed with black metal. Mixing the two types of metal is usually a hit or miss, and the Canadians doesn't pull it off 100% on In the Ire of Creation, but I wouldn't go as far and say it's bad. It's just somewhere in the middle.

Most of the time the band plays tight and in-your-face, but now and then it feels like the five-piece hold back. Sure the songs are diverse and overall fast, but too often it just isn't all that exciting. In a way it's like the music is on autopilot. Now and then it gets a little too standard and uninspired. I find that unfortunate as the good riffs and parts tend to be anonymous thanks to that.

The music works the best when the Canadians play fast. It's the slower and moderate parts that pull down. Of course the slower parts do provide diversity, but it doesn't work that well. It kind of kills the momentum in the music. The black metal inputs are clear. It's noticeable in the riffs, but definitely also in the vocals.

The production is clean and mechanical. The drums have a non-natural ring to them. That doesn't profit the music much. Overall I miss a more crispy production. In the Ire of Creation is an alright debut. The problem is just that it doesn't differ from much else in the genre.
