This is a three way split CD with some of England's most brutal bands. The first band to spew out utter cruelty is Crepitation. The music is American styled brutal death metal. The band have bands like Brodequin, Devourment and Deeds Of Flesh as inspiration. Of course there's nothing different or new whatsoever in what Crepitation is doing. I also doubt that was their goal as it seems that they are not trying to sound any different. They just continue in the same way as a 1000 other bands already do, but it's not really an issue as Crepitation are able make their music fairly interesting. They know how to play it tight and brutal, so why do it any differently?
Kastrated doesn't really sound much different from Crepitation and just like Crepitation the band is strongly inspired by American bands. Kastrated plays brutal and tight. The music is varied without getting too overwhelming. It's nice that the band doesn't solely rely on playing fast all the time, but also dare to slow down a bit once in a while. The Englishmen don't waste any time trying new tricks. Instead they focus on being brutal and they do it well. The songs are mostly very well put together, but in spite of this it can get a little tiring in the long run.
Ingested is deeply influenced by brutal American death metal just like the two aforementioned bands. The unit also finds inspiration in many of the same bands as Crepitation and Kastrated. Ingested also include Crepitation drummer Lyn Jeffs. The music sounds just the way it should. There are no detours or anything, only brutal and tightly played death metal. The songs are well put together, but without containing any surprises whatsoever. Ingested should have their debut full-length out via Grindethic Records later this year.
This split CD is clear proof that the English underground is still alive and well. Fans of no-frills brutal death metal ought to get this CD. There may not be anything unheard here at all, but the music sure is sick and twisted.
