JAPANISCHE KAMPFHÖRSPIELE - Bilder Fressen Strom
GENRE: Grindcore COUNTRY: Germany FORMAT: CD LABEL: Unundeux YEAR: January 2nd, 2010 RATING: 5/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Blacklist Promotion I didn't like much of what Japanische Kampfhörspiele did on Luxusvernichtung. I didn't know if I should chuckle or weep and I kind of feel the same about Bilder Fressen Strom. No doubt that the Germans have their own style. The band doesn't do the same thing twice and it's no exception on Bilder Fressen Strom either. The music is grindcore mixed with lots of punk and a bit of thrash metal. The result is diverse and it's obvious that the band have lots of strange inputs. There are catchy moments, but most of it isn't very exciting. Many of the songs were first takes. I like that as it does give the music an unpolished feel. Like on Luxusvernichtung this also adds a laid back feel to the songs. The music is mostly moderate and the Germans don't play fast very often. It works okay, but I miss some brutality to get things going, but I admit some of the slower parts are very good. Where things get way too much for my liking is the discordant vocals. It was the same on Luxusvernichtung and I know that it's a big part of the bands style, but it get really annoying after a while. The vocals do vary, but most of the time they are a hysterical shouting. It doesn't really help a whole lot either that Japanische Kampfhörspiele sings in German. I usually don't mind this, but here it makes it all feel comic and annoying. Bilder Fressen Bilder is a step up from the Luxusvernichtung MCD, but nevertheless Japanische Kampfhörspiele don't appeal much to my taste. If you're a fan of the band or just like punk or music with some peculiar inputs, then there's a chance that you'd like Bilder Fressen Bilder a lot more than I did. |
