KEITZER - Descend Into Heresy
GENRE: Death metal COUNTRY: Germany FORMAT: CD LABEL: F.D.A. Rekotz YEAR: January 6th, 2011 RATING: 6/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: F.D.A. Rekotz According to the piece of paper following the CD Keitzer is said to play a mix of death metal, grindcore and hardcore. I'm not saying that's not correct, but to me it most of all sound like the five-piece adore a band like Marduk a lot. Many of the songs have obvious hints of black metal. Sure there are elements of grindcore and hardcore as well, but most of all the music tend to focus on death and black metal. That doesn't automatically make it bad. I'm not the biggest fan of this kind of mixing the genres, but it works very well here. There are many good riffs and parts. It's obvious that the four-piece are capable song-writers. The music doesn't tend to get boring as there is always something different going on. There are lots of tempo changes and things to make the music diverse. Songs like "Wrath" and "Chains" are examples of that. They are catchy, diverse and have both energy and drive. The big problem about the music is that it does tend to sound a little too much like so much else. And because of that Descend Into Heresy will probably go unnoticed by most people. In a way that's unfair as the five-piece do put on a great job. The production is kind of arid, but at the same time thick and crunchy. It fits the music just right. Descend Into Heresy is not what I would tag as grindcore. It's a more a mix of black metal and death metal, but on the whole it's not a bad effort. |
