The French band Kronos is ready with their third CD The Hellenic Terror. There's not much new to find here, if anything. The music is in many ways standard death metal, but certainly in the better end of the scale. Kronos find inspiration from Severe Torture and older Decapitated, but it doesn't seem too obvious. The band understands to make it catchy and obviously they know what they are doing. Nothing appears to have been left to circumstances. The songs are varied and tightly played. The music is often very fast, but just as often the Frenchmen mixes slower middle-parts into the songs. This makes the music dynamic and interesting. It doesn't hurt either that a solo or two finds its way from time to time.

Kronos chose to record in Hertz Studios, Poland and the result is a production that is not very different from the sound of Vader and Decapitated. It's full and at the same time fairly clear. It fits Kronos' style very well and provides the music with the weigh it deserves. The Hellenic Terror is a solid effort. There's not the big surprises hidden here, but the music have what it takes and after all in the end that's what counts. This is definitely some of the best French death metal I've heard to this very day.
