The Belgian razorgrinders Leng Tch'e return with 16 new songs. I'm not too familiar with the band's previous efforts, but Marasmus appear a little more focused than previous records. The music is grindcore, but the Belgians seem to add a little more death metal inspiration this time. The inspiration from Blood Duster-like rock 'n roll grind doesn't deny this time either. It's quite noticeable, but Leng Tch'e has found a good balance between the different fundamentals thus providing the unit with a distinct sound.
Variation is a keyword to sum up on the sound and style on Marasmus. The music is immensely varied as the band switch between many styles. Moreover the pace is just as varied. It differs from hyperblast grind to slow rock 'n roll type of grooves. All these differences combined create a nuanced soundscape. I like the way that the band approach things. The Belgians may not provide something entirely new, but still the music sound energetic and fresh. Fans of Blood Duster, Nasum or well-played grindcore in general will appreciate Marasmus, I know I do.
