Celestial Pestilence is the debut effort by the San Diego, California located five-piece Lord Of War. The music is modern death metal mixed with a good amount of deathcore. The music is heavy and brutal, but catchy. The band often use electronic samples to spice it all up at little more and it works very well.

I like the song-writing. The band is good at mixing the fast and slow and vice versa. Often the band gear down a notch or two and add some slamming groove. But just as often the band play fast and in-your-face. Another thing I like is that there's a solo or two here and there, as well as bits and pieces of melody when needed.

I like the thick and meaty production a lot. It does give the music a very dense expression and it fits the music just right. In spite of the fat sound it's still possible to hear the different things that are going on.

Celestial Pestilence is well-rounded effort. Each song is good in its own way and there isn't any filler to make the music dreary. I think Celestial Pestilence is a strong debut, and it has most of what makes a great death metal CD.
