MALEBOLGIA - Requiem for the Inexorable Promo 2004
Released: 2004 | Label: Self financed | Rating: 7/10 | Reviewer: PSL | Provided by: Malebolgia

01. Infestdead
02. Born of the Nephilim

This two track promo from US death metallers Malebolgia does apparently severe as some sorta appetizer for their forth coming full-length debut Requiem for the Inexorable which is due later this year. And if this is an indication of what to come then it sounds very promising.

Off course it's a bit tough to make a proper judgement of Malebolgia and their music from just two songs with a total playing length of little over five minutes but I'll try and do so anyway. Music wise we're dealing with typical US death metal with some grindcore influences. It might not be original and for that matter innovative but still the band have managed to a certain extend create a sound of their own which only adds on the positive side. But regardless innovation or not there's not reason deny it both "Infestdead" and "Born of the Nephilim" kicks major fucking ass. However a minor detail that I didn't notice at first was that there's no leads on the two songs but I guess since I first noticed this later on it doesn't really matter that much. I seemed to spot some references to bands like Carcass and Impaled but that's mainly due to the vocals but also bands like Immolation and Origin comes to mind but this without Malebolgia coming across as being just another clone.
