If you don't like computer drums then you definitely won't like this album, but if you don't mind programmed drums and a rather shitty sound at times then Amusing Anecdotes For the Depraved might possibly be something for you. Maniac Killer is a one-man project by Neil Smith [a.k.a. Maniac Neil from Lord Gore, Frightmare] and he does a pretty good job to begin with, but more on that later. Of course as with most of these grindcore releases there's nearly as many samples as there's actual music, but they do provide a bit of relief in between all the sonic butchery and the fact that there's none on the last half of the album does affect the album in a negative direction and that actually annoys me quite a bit because Amusing Anecdotes For the Depraved end up being an unbearable mess of noise without head or tail.
What is the most negative thing about the album is the production which at times become very distorted and sounds like it was recorded too loud [from "Ultra Pervo" and on], but then half way through the album it gets really low and noisy. It really goes downhill from "The Evil Lord of Destruction 666" which sounds like a parody on Dani Filth and black metal. But the explanation for the shitty sound is that Neil recorded the album in his room and in his sister's garage on two different occasions. During the first couple of listens I found the album decent and quite amusing, in particular the first half of the record was very good [it's also the one with the best sound], but now after several more listens it mostly sounds like a chaotic mess of noise. I hate to say it, but some of the material here would have been better of not being released. If you can live with a shitty production and some often very mediocre or substandard grindcore then Amusing Anecdotes For the Depraved might be worth a check if not then I wouldn't recommend it.
