MARUTA - Forward Into Regression
GENRE: Grindcore COUNTRY: USA FORMAT: CD LABEL: Hammerheart Records YEAR: March 7th, 2011 RATING: 7/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Hammerheart Records A different drummer, the addition of a bass player and the American grindcore trio-now-turned-to-a-four-piece Maruta is back. In spite of the line-up changes the music hasn't changed much. It's obvious that the song-writing has matured, but overall the four-piece stay in known territory. The music is, just like on the debut a mix of grindcore, death metal and a few noisy parts here and there. Somehow I always think of Pig Destroyer although the music isn't all that alike. There's a nice versatility in what the band is doing. The four-piece is good at pairing the slow and heavy with the fast and sick. The different elements match each other well. Many grindcore CD's can seem like a blur of drums and guitars. The music can seem muddled and unexciting, but that's not how it is on Forward Into Regression. There are many catchy riffs and parts and that of course makes the music a lot easier to digest. Overall I find Forward Into Regression easier to get to than In Narcosis was. But in spite of this the music that Maruta play is definitely for the few. It's not soft or mellow in any way, but if you enjoy music that is brutal and revolting then I'm sure you'll like Forward Into Regression just as much as I did. |
