I hate to admit it, but I'm not familiar with any of Mortal Decay's material prior to Cadaver Art so I can't really tell if the band have progressed or changed direction since the previous album Forensic. At first I got the impression that music was typical brutal US death metal, but there's actually much more to it than just that. Sure it's brutal, but it sounds far more diversified than what so many others in this particular genre do. Contrary to many of their colleagues Mortal Decay varies the tempo a lot of the time. Songs like in for instance "Cadaverous Sculptures Part II: Morbid Fixations", "Re-animate" or "Ruthless Scissored clearly illustrate this, but the entire album is very diverse both tempo and music wise.

The songs are skilfully put together and the diversity makes Cadaver Art an album that can stand multiply listens without losing its durability. There's really not a bad song on Cadaver Art, but still it seems like something is missing to make this a superior effort, but no doubt that it belongs in the better end of the albums put out in 2005 and songs like "The Ravenous Addiction", "Cadaverous Sculptures Part I: Preparing for Display" and "Ruthless Scissored" clearly show the capabilities that this band has so if you're looking for some good death metal then you can't go wrong with Cadaver Art.
