NESSERIA - Nesseria
GENRE: Grindcore COUNTRY: France FORMAT: CD LABEL: Trendkill Recordings YEAR: December, 2009 RATING: 8/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Nesseria This self titled effort is the full-length debut from the French five-piece Nesseria Besides Nesseria the band has put out a few split CD's and a vinyl split. The music is a mixture of various styles. The band take inputs from death metal and grindcore and mix it with noisy and sludge type of parts. I also spot a bit of doom now and then. There are bits and pieces of Fuck The Facts, Drugs Of Faith and Mastodon in the music, but nothing that is too obvious. The song-writing is competent and the band is good at making the riffs exciting and has enough changes in the songs so it doesn't get too predictable. I like how the five-piece is able to add a lot of emotion to the music just by the use of the guitars. Here's no samples or other unnecessarily filler to take away the attention from the actual music. The music is fast now and then, but mostly the Frenchmen go for a mid-tempo or slower type of style. That combination works well and makes the fast parts feel a bit more intense. It can be heard on "Havixbecker Strasse", "Parperteset Profits" and "Le Quatrieme Age" among others. The production is good. It's has the right beefy type of ring to it and that provides the music with some additional volume. The five-piece may not have come up with a whole lot that is different in terms of the music and attitude, but Nesseria is an effort that has what it takes to stay exciting. If you like death metal or grindcore that is not just straight forward, then give Nesseria a chance. |
