Most people think of beer and chocolate when Belgium is brought up. I too think of this, but also of bands like Aborted, Leng Tch'e or Prejudice. Of course Belgian grindcore and death metal is much more than the aforementioned bands.

Not to be confused with the American pop band with the same name, well almost the same name the four-piece plays death metal that is rich on groove and fat riffs. There's nothing in the music that set the Belgians apart from so much else in the genre, but I like the music.

What I don't like is that the band totally overexerts the use of samples. It doesn't make it better that most of the samples are not very good. I don't get why some bands think it's necessary to plaster the songs with goofy bits and pieces taken from movies, cartoons and who knows where. It could have added something to the music if the use had been a bit more moderated and the samples better, but here it just annoys.

I think it's a pity as the four-piece do write some good songs. I like that the band mix the groovy with both slow and fast parts. As I already wrote it's nothing atypical, but it works. The music has a bit in common with Sinister and to a degree Houwitser. There are definitely some similarities on "My Own Demise". The four Belgians are also inspired by brutal American death metal, but that isn't too obvious. The band finish it all off with the Skinless song "Crispy Kids".

Mass Murder Fantasies is a standard effort. That of course doesn't make it bad. I would have rated it a little higher if it wasn't for the annoying samples. If you can get past those, then there's some okay death metal on Mass Murder Fantasies.
