PANDEMIC GENOCIDE - Mighty Apocalypse
GENRE: Death metal COUNTRY: Poland FORMAT: CD LABEL: Psycho Records YEAR: February, 2011 RATING: 6/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Psycho Records Pandemic Genocide is a Polish two-piece. The music is old school death metal with undertones of black metal. Some of the riffs and parts makes me think of Unanimated and Twin Obscenity, like on "Arcana Mortem" or "Fvneraland". The music is diverse and many of the riffs are catchy. The songs isn't too complex, but there's enough going on not to bore. The two-piece doesn't play all that fast, but the songs have the needed contrast. I also like that there's some murk keyboard parts to spice it all up a bit. Just as there are some acoustic bits and pieces here and there. Most of the songs have a dark and somewhat bleak feel to them. That is probably also why I hear a bit of Unanimated in the music. The production is dirty and grime, it has an almost black metal ring to it. But the production has enough bite to make the music tight. However it sounds a lot like some of the songs wasn't recorded at the same time. There's definitely a switch in sound from "Fvneraland" to "Abyss of Blasphemy", but that is not something that spoils the overall experience. Mighty Apocalypse isn't something out of the ordinary, but it does have a lot of the qualities that makes a good CD. If you like death metal that is mixed with bites and pieces of black metal then Mighty Apocalypse may be the CD that you're looking for. |
