PEDESTRIAN 13 - Victims
GENRE: Grindcore COUNTRY: Canada FORMAT: CD LABEL: Self financed YEAR: 2010 RATING: 6/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Pedestrian 13 Pedestrian-13 is a Canadian two-piece. The band got together in 2009 and in early 2010 the two Canadians put out the EP Victims. The music is grindcore, but not the conventional type. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly who has inspired the band in terms of style and music and I guess that's not a bad thing. Inventive may be too strong a word to use about the music, but the songs definitely have personality. The songs vary from slow, fat and groovy parts to the usual fast type of grindcore. Actually it has a lot of the vibe that is in goregrind, and I like this. The vocals are not too different from what you'd expect from the genre. It's a shouting kind of death metal vocal. It fits the music, but the band blends some peculiar vocals in as well. The songs are short, but the five songs on the EP fit well together so it's not something that you really notice. I like that the band goes for a fat and juicy sound and not the more flat hardcore type of production that many conventional grindcore bands have. It's difficult to judge the band properly based on only a little more than six minutes of music, but I do like what the two-piece is doing. Of course it would always be nice with more recognizable parts, but Pedestrian 13 do have a lot interesting to build on. |
