PRIMAL ORDER - Conform
GENRE: Death metal COUNTRY: Holland FORMAT: CD LABEL: Self financed YEAR: 2010 RATING: 6/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Primal Order I don't know much about Primal Order apart from the band coming out of the city of Amsterdam. The Dutch four-piece plays old school death metal with a grime twist. It's hard to pin point some exact inspirations, but the band is said to be inspired by Asphyx, Vomitory and Obituary among others. I don't hear this much, but the Dutchmen has a lot of the same simplicity in their music. There's nothing different to the songs. It's all been done before, but the band doesn't deny this. The music also has hints of black metal to it, but not in a big way. I guess a lot of this has to do with the somewhat thin and dirty production the band has. In a way it fits the music, but on the other hand it also makes it seem a bit too flat and loose. I miss a more tight production and playing. The songs are diverse and there are some good riffs and parts, but I don't hear that extra something that would make the band stands out among the crowd. A song like "Plagueridden" does prove that Primal Order is capable of writing songs that has the right amount of catchy parts to be interesting. Unfortunately there are not many songs like that on Conform. Conform is above all a standard effort, but I've heard far worse than this. If you like dirty old school death metal then this Dutch four-piece is well worth checking out. |
