On the debut Zenith Resection plays a fresh blend of death metal and grindcore. The music sound vital, but there's hardly anything overly experimental or new in what the trio is doing, but they do it well and that counts. The songs are heavy and quite brutal at times, but the unit don't neglect adding some groove or slow the music down here and there. Resection have found a good balance between full-blown brutality and more relaxed grooves. Often the blastbeats come in sudden outburst, only to disappear into a more middling pace.

It doesn't hurt either that traces of grindcore pop up now and then. I'm not so much thinking of blastbeats, but more of how the guitar and vocals sounds. All this only help colour the songs further and create a living soundscape to explore. There are a few samples now and then. These are tastefully done and fit well with the music. It's obvious that the Germans are fully in control of what they are doing. Nothing appears to be left to coincidences. Zenith is soaked in a powerful, but clear production which only help emphasis the qualities this band has. Zenith is an interesting amalgam of death metal and grindcore. This CD should appeal to fans in both camps. There's always room for improvement, but overall Zenith is a CD that the band can be proud of.
