This split CD with Sanity's Dawn and Mechanical Separation consist of various material from compilations, tributes as well as some new tracks. Sanity's Dawn didn't impress me much on the material I've previously heard from the band, but I feel a little different about the music on this split. The songs have a slightly more brutal and heavy edge than what I've heard from the German grindcore freaks before. The music on this split is from different recording sessions, but still it appears a little more memorable. The band also include their renditions of tracks from Impetigo and Carcass.
Mechanical Separation is a little different from Sanity's Dawn and they are also the most interesting of the two. The music is simplistic grindcore, but it's far more diverse than what Sanity's Dawn does. Mechanical Separation relies heavily on samples and intros. It works well and provides the music with a very doomsday feeling. Again it's clear that the music isn't from just one session and the last four songs from Mechanical Separation sound thin and hollow. This split is okay and a must if you're a fan of any of the bands, but there's really not too much to find here if you're a newcomer to any of the two.
