Skewered is a Dublin based death metal band. The unit was formed in 2004 and to my knowledge Homegrown Brutality is their first release. The result on the demo is anything but impressive. The music isn't very tightly played and there's really not much going on either. Sure the band have some alright ideas, but somehow they are not able to push these ideas to a degree where the music becomes more than a muddy blur of anonymous riffing, drumming and deep growls.

The band tries varying things a bit by allowing the bass upfront a couple of times, but that doesn't really work too well. The use of samples doesn't benefit the overall impression as they seem misplaced and spoil the continuity in the music. It don't do good to the music either that the production is both muddy and thin. It's clear that the Irish have a foundation to build on, but it takes some work before the music become interesting.
