SKINLESS - Skinflick
GENRE: Death metal COUNTRY: USA FORMAT: DVD LABEL: Relapse Records YEAR: November 8th, 2004 RATING: 9/10 REVIEWED BY: PSL PROVIDED BY: Target Distribution This is by far, if not the best and most entertaining music DVD I've seen to this very day. Instead of having made the usual boring concert DVD like so many other bands have an annoying tendency to do Skinless have approached things a little differently by making a flick that is interesting, funny and yet extremely brutal. Skinflick follows the band on tours around the world and in between all the brutal live clips there are some hilarious off-stage footage where you see the band goofing around with the fans, some random crackhead, a bum and also looking for hookers as well as other crazy things. Hilarious footage like this is what prolongs the durability of the DVD significantly. Not to mention the interviews with the members which are informative and gives a good insight into the mind and soul of Skinless. Most of, if not all of the footage is seemingly shoot on a camcorder but there's nothing wrong with the quality of the footage, sure it is a little muddy and unclear a few places but it's really only a minor detail that doesn't spoil anything. The majority of the music is of course taken from their latest From Sacrifice to Survival but there are also music from both Foreshadowing Our Demise and Progression Towards Evil so all in all the band covers every corner of their discography. The music video for the track "From Sacrifice to Survival" is also featured and a really cool thing about it is that the outtakes and fuckups are included after the video. I was about to give Skinflick 10/10 because of its interesting and somewhat different approach but it doesn't quite qualify for the top score even though its close in doing so. |
