Slow Death Factory is the name of a new band, but it's also the name of a song on Illdisposed's Submit album. Now you might ask why I mention this. Well, there's actually a link between the two and the link is guitarist Morten Gilsted who used to play in Illdisposed and now have surfaced again in Slow Death Factory. Joining him is vocalist Martin Rosendahl [Corpus Mortale], bassist Roar Christoffersen [also Corpus Mortale] and session drummer Per Møller Jensen [Invocator, The Haunted]. The style is filthy and groove death 'n' roll. The music is catchy and the similarities to the Submit era are many, but it's nice to hear that sort of groove death metal again. The similarities with Illdisposed may be many, but the music has enough identity to stand on its own.
What annoys me a little about Music For Tough Guys is the production. It's not bad, but it sounds a little too filthy and dry. A slightly cleaner production would probably have raised this to an even higher level. The three songs on the promo are very equal, none seem better or worse than the other and this should not be interpretated as a negative thing. Apparently the band is planning on recording a full-length at some point, and I for one is looking forward to this because the band have proved with this promo that they have the ability to write some memorable songs that can stand multiple listens without getting boring. Fans of Submit will eat Music For Tough Guys raw.
