Imagery wise The County Medical Examiners rely on all the clichés. The band claim to be real-life pathologists and blah, blah, blah… Of course I can't say it isn't true, but this gimmick has been used quite a few times before without being true, so I have my doubts.

The odd thing about the line-up is that the bass player is a 63 year old guy named Dr. Guy Radcliffe, but don't think the music is less gory because of this. The music is totally Carcass worship, and the trio puts no effort in trying to sound different. It's amazing how influential the Brits have been. It's impossible to keep track of all the Carcass clones, and The County Medical Examiners don't differ from any of the others, but musically they are convincing. It's also their clear adoration for Carcass that makes Olidous Operettas a good effort. The band never tries to hide nor camouflage these facts, and I find this appealing.

The songs are varied, but somehow you always know what to expect. Had it been another band, I would probably have bashed them for it, but there's something in the dedication that The County Medical Examiners show that allows them to get away with it. Most of the songs on Olidous Operettas are good, but tracks like "Casper's Dictum", "Necrotic Apologues" and "Expeditious Evisceratory Mishap" are the highlights, as they appear the most catchy. From first note, it's obvious that The County Medical Examiners remain loyal to the masters, and it's nice to hear that there are still people who keep this sound alive. Fans of Carcass, Exhumed or Impaled and pathological goregrind in general shouldn't pass on this one!
